Finding Focus in the Zen Den
Hannah Beck, a Public Affairs/Community Development graduate student from Germany, highlights the benefits of the Zen Den, featured in Eileen Reinhard’s article, “Stressed Students Improving Focus and Concentration by Visiting the Zen Den.” Located on the second floor of the North Third Street dormitory, this on-campus space provides students with a sanctuary for mindfulness and stress relief.

Stacy Haynes, Professional Councelor, Student Wellness Center
Developed with the involvement of the Student Wellness Center, the Zen Den features a sculptural meditation pod designed by fine art faculty members Daniel Ostrov and Grant Whittaker. Crafted from natural materials like wood and copper, the pod fosters an environment where students can decompress, refocus, and recharge.
Reinhard’s article explores how this innovative initiative integrates wellness practices into on-campus living, creating a calming space for students to prioritize their mental health. Read more to learn how the Zen Den is reshaping student wellness at Rutgers–Camden.
