Graduation Requirements By Degree
Students must fulfill the master’s degree requirements or the doctoral degree requirements prior to filing for graduation. Please note that students must be an “active” student to be eligible to apply for graduation.
Filing for graduation is as simple as following the below steps:
- Filing a diploma application.
- Filing an application for admission to candidacy. This summarizes your educational experience and allows your program director and the Associate Dean to certify your completion of degree requirements.
- Submitting your final project, whether that be a capstone, thesis, or dissertation, to one of our online repositories.
Follow the links below to complete these steps. We are glad to support you in finishing your academic journey!
You will be asked for a diploma address. Your diploma will be mailed here. Be sure to pick an address to which you are comfortable sending important documents. You may also elect to pick up at the Registrar’s office, which is located in Armitage.

This is the standard form for graduate students of all programs. Use this to fill in the credits that fulfill your degree requirements. (You may not know the grade for your final class at time of applying — we will fill that in for you.) You must input every single class and credit that will apply to your degree! We will void applications that are left blank with unofficial transcripts attached. Note: in the past, some programs have had “coursework” as their final project requirement, and that has been relabeled as a “capstone” for future graduations.
Submitting your Final Project
You may have completed either a capstone, thesis, or dissertation. You will need to submit a title page that allows your advisors to certify that you have completed this final project:
Style guides for these can be found below:

- Videos to help you format your thesis or dissertation as per the required style guides are provided here: ETD Style Guide Videos
- Capstones do not need to adhere to a strict style guide. Your only requirement is to append an unsigned title page to your capstone, all saved as a PDF, before submitting to our repository. You can find a blank title page here: Capstone Title Page [Link}

You will then have to submit the project to our online repositories:

-
- Thesis and dissertations will be submitted to our ETD system, found here. [Link]
-
- A graduate assistant will work with you to polish formatting as these will be published to Rutgers’ ProQuest repository. If you would like your work to not be public, please let us know to place a permanent embargo on it.
-
- Capstones will be submitted in PDF form to our online repository, here. [Link]
-
- Please recall that capstones do not need to adhere to strict formatting guidelines. They can be as simple as a PDF with a title page and, then, your final project, in whatever form. The title pages allow for us to easily organize and present all capstones regardless of varied formatting among various disciplines.

- Thesis and dissertations will be submitted to our ETD system, found here. [Link]
