Teaching & Graduate Assistantships

The Graduate School-Camden offers Teaching and Graduate Assistantships to full-time applicants in select programs, providing students with prestigious and highly competitive opportunities. These assistantships come with a comprehensive set of benefits, including full tuition and fee remission, a generous stipend (to be allocated towards living expenses, housing costs, and other personal financial needs as deemed appropriate), and health benefits. Students interested in any of these positions should apply early.

Teaching Assistantships (TAs) involve teaching undergraduate courses or providing grading support, while Graduate Assistantships support faculty and staff with research or administrative tasks. Part-Time Employment

Part-time employment opportunities are available for Graduate Students across various campus offices and departments. Students have the opportunity to work for Housing and Residence Life, the Paul Robeson Library, the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs, and other offices throughout the campus. These positions provide valuable work experience and contribute to the vibrant campus community.

Additionally, there are occasional part-time lecturer positions in departments across campus. These positions offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to build skills in the academic environment.

Furthermore, Rutgers University-Camden actively participates in the Federal Work-Study program, which assists eligible students in obtaining part-time employment opportunities. Work-study positions encompass a wide range of roles, including administrative tasks in academic departments, library assistance, student services support, and responsibilities related to campus facilities.

Please note: Work-study positions are available only to domestic students who have completed the FAFSA and meet the eligibility criteria.

Graduate Student Assistant – Customer Service

Graduate Student Assistant – Customer Service

  • Position Type: Part-Time / up to 20 hours per week
  • Start Date: January 5, 2026
  • Compensation: $15.49/hr

Position Summary:

The College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) seeks a highly motivated and customer-focused Graduate Assistant to provide essential support in our office. This position is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to gain experience in higher education administration while enhancing their customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet visitors and assist them with their needs in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Determine the nature of visitors’ appointments and guide them accordingly.
  • Screen in-person and telephone appointments for current students, re-enrolling students, school-to-school transfers, and students from other units interested in CCAS majors.
  • Schedule appointments using the Navigate scheduling system.
  • Send surveys to students who have appointments and provide reminders for upcoming appointments.
  • Provide coverage for the administrative assistant during vacations or absences, ensuring smooth office operations.
  • Direct students visiting the CCAS office to the appropriate department or office based on their needs.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program at Rutgers Camden
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience using scheduling software (e.g., Navigate) is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and welcoming environment in a busy office setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
  • Prior experience in an administrative support role.
  • Knowledge of CCAS programs and services is a plus.

Graduate School Administrative Assistant Work Study

The Graduate School – Federal Work Study Office Assistant Positions

The Graduate School is seeking Federal Work Study students as office assistants to conduct a variety of office-related tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets visitors
  • Provide administrative support, including correspondence, email, document prep, recordkeeping, databases, reports, and related clerical tasks
  • Assist with creating/maintaining calendars/meeting schedules
  • Coordinate logistics for event planning (room reservations, food)
  • Provide support for and participate in outreach events, including tabling
  • Assist with publicity and marketing efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred availability on weekdays, including some nights.

Applicants who are current graduate students are preferred. Applicants must be work study eligible.
