Graduate School Admitted Student Checklist
Congratulations on your admission to Rutgers-Camden Graduate School! The podcast and steps below are tailored for you, whether you’re coming from Shanghai, Chicago, or Cherry Hill. Assistant Dean Erick Watt-Udogu, along with a special guest from the Office of International Students, covers everything you need to know—from I-20 documentation and class enrollment to scholarship funding and settling into our community—to make your transition smooth and successful.
To confirm your place as a graduate student at Rutgers-Camden, you must let us know if you accept or decline the offer of admission. This can be done conveniently online.
- Acceptance Validity: Your offer of acceptance is valid for one academic year.
- Enroll in Courses: To maintain your acceptance to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University–Camden, it is crucial to enroll in and successfully complete at least three credits during your first semester after acceptance. Students who are offered funding must take prompt action by registering for classes within 30 days of accepting the funding offer or when the registration opens.
- Deferral Request: If you feel the need to defer your admission to a later term or academic year, it’s essential to obtain permission from your program’s director. To initiate the deferral process, please inform the Graduate School. It’s important to be aware that funding offers are valid only for the term they are initially offered. In the event of a deferral, your new funding package will be assessed by the committee and will be subject to budget constraints.
Notify the program director of your acceptance. In many instances, the Graduate Program Director also functions as your academic advisor. You can find the contact information for your program’s director on your program’s page or department website.
To ensure seamless communication and access to essential university services, it is crucial to activate your NetID as soon as possible. Your NetID serves as your unique identity within the university’s identification and authentication system. However, please be aware that it may take 24 to 48 hours from accepting the offer until you can activate your NetID.
With your NetID, you’ll have access to a variety of resources, including library services, course websites, the online registration system (WebReg), and much more. It is also the gateway to setting up your Rutgers Email account, which will be the primary means of communication from the university. Remember, you are responsible for regularly checking this email address or forwarding emails to an address you frequently use.
To activate your NetID and set up your Rutgers Email account, visit netid.rutgers.edu and click on “NetID Activation.” If you prefer to have your emails forwarded, you can manage your email addresses on the same website by clicking on the respective option.
If you are having trouble accessing your NETID, please visit the FAQ page or contact IT at 856-225-6274 or help@camden.rutgers.edu.
Domestic students, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Rutgers’ federal school code is 002629, and you can apply directly at fafsa.ed.gov. For more information, please visit the Graduate School Funding page or the Financial Aid Website.
If you have already submitted your FAFSA, you can easily verify the accuracy of your documents and award status at financialaid.rutgers.edu.
International students, please provide the necessary information and documentation to the International Students & Global Programs office. This step is essential for us to issue your initial I-20. Within the e-form group, you will also find access to your acceptance letter. A link to this form will be sent directly to the email address on file (from your admission application) within five to seven business days after accepting your admission.
To complete your application process, kindly submit your official transcript(s) from all the institutions you have attended to the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions. For your convenience, official electronic transcripts can be sent to e-transcripts@camden.rutgers.edu.

Immunizations: Prior to course registration, all on-campus and hybrid Rutgers degree-seeking students are required to submit their immunization records. For more detailed information, please visit the website.
Health Insurance: Full-time Rutgers students are required to demonstrate proof of insurance coverage. To comply, students can either waive (by providing proof of private health insurance) or enroll in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. Detailed information and online waiver forms can be found on this site, and the link will also be available on your tuition bill.
If full-time students fail to show proof of adequate health insurance, they will be automatically enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan, and the premium will be added to their bill. Part-time students and students with private health insurance may voluntarily enroll in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. Visit this site for plan details and enrollment instructions.
Please note that online degree programs or non-matriculated students registered for online courses only are not eligible to enroll in the university health insurance.
Health insurance provided through the University is separate from Health Services on campus. When the term bills are due, the Student Accounting Office will send you an email notification containing comprehensive instructions on how to make the payment. Remember, you must be officially registered for classes to receive a term bill.
If you have applied for financial aid, the awarded amount will be reflected on your tuition bill. For those eligible for tuition remission from their employer, ensure you have all the required paperwork ready to submit along with the bill when the payment is due.
Keep in mind that if you have been granted an assistantship, tuition remission will not appear until after the semester begins. Similarly, if you have been awarded a scholarship from the Graduate School, it will not be posted until mid-August for the fall semester or mid-January for the spring semester.
As a general guideline, fall semester term bills are typically due in mid-August, and spring semester term bills are due in mid-January. Watch your email closely for the notification and exact due dates to avoid late payment.
