Teaching & Graduate Assistantships

The Graduate School-Camden offers Teaching and Graduate Assistantships to full-time applicants in select programs, providing students with prestigious and highly competitive opportunities. These assistantships come with a comprehensive set of benefits, including full tuition and fee remission, a generous stipend (to be allocated towards living expenses, housing costs, and other personal financial needs as deemed appropriate), and health benefits. Students interested in any of these positions should apply early.

Teaching Assistantships (TAs) involve teaching undergraduate courses or providing grading support, while Graduate Assistantships support faculty and staff with research or administrative tasks. Part-Time Employment

Part-time employment opportunities are available for Graduate Students across various campus offices and departments. Students have the opportunity to work for Housing and Residence Life, the Paul Robeson Library, the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs, and other offices throughout the campus. These positions provide valuable work experience and contribute to the vibrant campus community.

Additionally, there are occasional part-time lecturer positions in departments across campus. These positions offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to build skills in the academic environment.

Furthermore, Rutgers University-Camden actively participates in the Federal Work-Study program, which assists eligible students in obtaining part-time employment opportunities. Admissions Assistant

Admissions Assistant Job Description

Position Summary:

The Office of Admissions is seeking a graduate student employee to serve as an Admissions Assistant. The Admissions Assistant will report directly to the Assistant Director of International and Graduate Admissions. Office Hours are 8:30AM-5:00PM. This position will work 15-25 hours per week. Compensation is set at $20 per hour.

This role will assist in the areas of Graduate and International Admissions by providing customer service via email and phone, maintaining files and reports, and administrative support as needed. The Admissions Assistant will triage email inquiries from Graduate and International student populations, responding to emails and escalating as necessary. The Admissions Assistant will also conduct outreach to applicants reminding them of outstanding items to complete their application, will send electronic acceptance letters to international applicants and will assist in the mailing of acceptance packets for graduate applicants.

To be successful in this role, the candidate should have 1-2 years of relevant experience in a customer service or administrative assistant position. Strong customer service and written communication skills are required. Graduate application requirements vary from program to program, and international application requirements can vary country to country. This candidate should be detail oriented, patient, organized, willing to learn and ask questions, and to seek help when needed.

Customer Service Representative Job Description

Position Summary:

The College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) seeks a highly motivated and customer-focused Graduate student to provide essential support in our office. This position is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to gain experience in higher education administration while enhancing their customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet visitors and assist them with their needs in a friendly and professional manner.
Determine the nature of visitors’ appointments and guide them accordingly.
Screen in-person and telephone appointments for current students, re-enrolling students, school-to-school transfers, and students from other units interested in CCAS majors.
Schedule appointments using the Navigate scheduling system.
Send surveys to students who have appointments and provide reminders for upcoming appointments.
Provide coverage for the administrative assistant during vacations or absences, ensuring smooth office operations.
Direct students visiting the CCAS office to the appropriate department or office based on their needs.

Graduate Program Coordinator

Graduate Program Coordinator Job Description

Position Summary:

Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC) for Residence Life: ALL GPCs are crossed-trained to serve in multiple capacities within the office, however the core function of this position is to supervise and manage the Resident Assistant (RA) teams of the GPC’s assigned building, including programming, student support, and student engagement.

Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC) for Housing Administration: ALL GPCs are crossed-trained to serve in multiple capacities within the office, however the core function of this position is assisting with the supervision of the Resident Services Coordinators (RSCs), who staff the Welcome Desks in each lobby. The RSC checks IDs, answers phones/emails, and checks in/out packages and guests.

Additionally, ALL GPCs, regardless of functional designation, are members of the OHRL Administrator On-Call duty rotation to manage after hours crisis situations. Also, all GPCs serve office hours in the main OHRL offices, providing customer service to students and guests during the business day Monday-Friday.

The GPC role is a live-in required position. The 2025-2026 GPC Role begins June 1, 2025, with training taking place over the course of the summer ahead of the start of the academic year.
