Steps to Estimate Your Graduate Program Costs
Notes:
- For all Camden Graduate schools, nine credits is considered full-time for the purpose of assessing fees.
- Full-time student, school, and technology fees are assessed at nine credits.
- Tuition is charged per credit up to a maximum of 12 credits.
Mandatory Fees:
- Domestic and International Students are charged a Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) of $1,233.00 for Fall and $1,709.00 for Spring.
- Part-Time International Students are charged a $310.00 Health Services Fee per semester.

Illustrative Example: International Data Science Student
The following example is for illustrative purposes only. Actual costs will vary, and tuition and fees often change at the beginning of each fiscal year.
Assume you are an international student enrolled in a 30-credit program, taking 9 credits per semester, with a financial award of $5,000 per semester.
Step 1. Calculate Tuition and Fees Per Semester:
- Tuition: 9 credits × $1,415.00 per credit = $12,735.00
- Student Fee: $1,042.00
- Technology Fee: $174.00
- School Fee: $159.50
Total Before Financial Award: $12,735.00 + $1,042.00 + $174.00 + $159.50 = $14,110.50 per semester
Step 2. Apply Financial Award:
- Out-of-Pocket Cost per Semester: $14,110.50 – $5,000.00 = $9,110.50
Step 3. Estimate Total Program Cost:
- Total Semesters Needed: 30 credits ÷ 9 credits per semester ≈ 3.33 semesters (round up to 4 semesters)
- Total Out-of-Pocket Cost: $9,110.50 × 4 semesters = $36,442.00
Additional Considerations:
- Health Insurance: Full-time students are required to have health insurance. If you do not have your own coverage, you will be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). The cost for the 2024–2025 academic year is $1,233.00 for the Fall semester and $1,709.00 for the Spring semester.
- Miscellaneous Expenses: Books, supplies, housing, and personal expenses are not included in the above estimates.
Miscellaneous Expenses & Additional Considerations
Rutgers University will directly bill you for charges, including tuition, fees, and room and board. It is important to note that in addition to these billed charges, you will also need to cover other expenses such as books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous costs (e.g., laundry and personal care items).
